Metal films are usually evaporated or sputtered on glass substrates
or attenuated by doped glass with high absorption. The required
attenuation can be obtained by controlling the coating thickness or
the doping amount and thickness of the glass. The optical
attenuator can also be made from the coupling loss of two optical
fibers docking.
