The PLC fiber optic splitter uses semiconductor processes (photolithography, etching, developing, etc.). Optical waveguide array is located on the surface of the chip, the splitting and distribution function are integrated in the chip, which realizes 1 splitting in one chip; then couple input and multi channel fiber array of output at the two ends of the chip respectively and pack .

Compared with the fused biconical taper splitter, the advantages of the PLC optical splitter are: (1) The loss is insensitive to the optical wavelength, and can meet transmission needs of different wavelengths. (2) The optical ratio is even, and the signal can be evenly distributed to the users. (3) Compact structure, small size, can be directly installed in the existing optical distribution boxes, without leaving a lot of space for installation. (4) A single device can be with a lot of channels, is able to reach more than 32 or even 64. (5) Cost for multi channels is low, the number of channel is more, and the cost advantage is more obvious.
