How To Determine A Qualified Polishing End Face Of Fiber Optic Pigtail

Observe the enlarged end face on the screen, if the end face meet the following standard, it is qualified:

No scratches, pits, bubble and splash on the optical fiber and area near optical fiber; there is light go through the fiber; sampling 1 in 12 pieces, when interference glass is used, the interference fringe center and the fiber core coincide.

If there is small pits and small scratches on the end face, it does not damage the ferrule end face , interference fringes is regular and not eccentric, in this case it can be regarded as qualified.

If there is large and dense pits or irregular small scratches on the end face, means that grinding time is not enough, need to go back to do polishing again(the re-polishing depends on pits or scratches).

If there is dark area on the core area of the end face and the area is greater than 1/4 of the core area , which indicates that the end face of the core has been broken, it has to be considered to scrap.

If there is straight and long scratches on the end face, means that there is impurities on grinding paper, it need to clean the grinding paper and then re-polishing (depending on the scratch ).

If the interference rings is irregular, and the center of the first interference ring has been deviated from the core, means that the then the spherical end has not well polished, the possible reason is it is not clamped vertically and need to install and polish from the beginning again.
